Condor Figure on a Belt (Detail)

The condor can be seen on Peruvian art thousands of years old. This condor, woven by a contemporary Inca weaver, may still represent strength, freedom, and the power of the condor to communicate with the mountain gods.

Those visiting the city of Cusco, the center of the old Inca empire, sometimes hear in the streets the sound of flutes playing "El Condor Pasa" (The Condor Passes.")
