Balls of Yarn Ready for Weaving

Balls of yarn laid out on a manta show some kinds of yarns Chinchero weavers use today. To the right (in back) the balls are spun from sheep's wool and colored with natural dyes. The balls on the left are spun from sheep's wool but are dyed with chemical dyes. The yarns in the foreground are made with synthetic fibers processed and spun in a factory.

The Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco is actively working to help and encourage weavers to use traditional materials.
