In the courtyard Yolanda, Nilda's niece, knits a traditional Andean hat using a difficult Andean technique.
A dozen years ago only one old woman in town remembered the traditional knitting of the village. Nilda spent time with the expert knitter, watched her knit and gradually learned how to weave traditional hats and bags. Nilda taught the technique to her niece, Yolanda, and other younger members of the community. Now the knitting tradition of Chinchero has been preserved and can be passed on to future generations.
Andean knitting is admired by knitters all over the world.
