Colonial Church

Nilda knows that when she sees an early colonial church, like the 400-year-old church in Chinchero, an important Inca temple or monument once stood here.

The Europeans who conquered the Incas were determined to abolish Inca traditions and religious beliefs. They tore down temples and built Christian churches on the Inca foundations.
