Chinchero Manta with Tubular Edgings

Mantas of Chinchero, laid on top of each other, show the three- dimensional edgings often woven around the four sides of weavings. The edging is called “nawi awapa”[link to ????] which means “eye” in the Quechua language–the eye of the potato, the seed planted in the ground from which a plant sprouts, and other associations to growth and generation.
