Ñuchu Flowers

Ñuchu FlowersTo dye her yarn, Nilda sometimes uses flowers from the Ñuchu plant growing in her courtyard. The blossoms appear bright red but they render a pale red dye.

Brighter natural red dyes are rare and highly valued. The best sources of red are madder (a plant) and cochineal (a dye made from bugs which grow on cactus plants.)
